The Community Food Security Program is a humanitarian initiative of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. – Shreveport Alumni Chapter dedicated to addressing hunger and food insecurity across Northwest Louisiana. Through coordinated food drives, community meal distributions, and strategic partnerships with food banks, shelters, churches, and social service organizations, the Chapter provides critical support to individuals and families facing food shortages.

This program places special emphasis on assisting children, seniors, veterans, and low-income households, particularly during high-need periods such as holidays, school breaks, and emergency situations. In addition to food distribution, the initiative promotes nutrition awareness and connects families to long-term food assistance resources.

The Community Food Security Program is a cornerstone service initiative of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. – Shreveport Alumni Chapter, designed to reduce hunger and promote food stability among vulnerable populations in the Shreveport-Bossier region.

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge affecting families, seniors, and children throughout Northwest Louisiana. In response, the Chapter established this program to deliver direct relief and sustainable support through a multi-tiered strategy that includes:

  • Community Food Drives
Organizing large-scale food collection efforts in partnership with schools, churches, civic organizations, and corporate sponsors.

  • Holiday & Emergency Meal Distributions
Providing grocery packages and full meal boxes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and crisis situations.

  • Senior & Veteran Nutrition Outreach
Delivering food assistance to elderly residents, veterans, and individuals with mobility limitations.

  • Youth Nutrition Support
Supplying food for children during summer months and school breaks when access to school meal programs is limited.

  • Partnership-Based Distribution Model
Collaborating with food banks, shelters, and community kitchens to maximize reach and operational efficiency.

Beyond food distribution, the program integrates nutrition education, referrals to public assistance programs, and advocacy for long-term food equity. It also engages youth and volunteers in service learning, fostering a culture of compassion, civic responsibility, and community stewardship.

Through donor contributions, volunteer leadership, and community partnerships, the Shreveport Alumni Chapter remains committed to ensuring that no family in our community goes hungry and that all residents have access to healthy, dignified food support.
